Win! Place! Show!
Now that my favorite television program, Boston Legal, is in hiatus due to the writers’ strike, I’m finding myself watching the presidential caucuses with more interest than ever this year.
My, what a plethora of personalities and opinions! I feel as though I’m at a horse race track being pushed and shoved in many directions. I haven’t placed any bets, but my friends say that they will buy me several tickets to hurry up and rally for their “horse.” Being an Independent, this is how I see the top candidates through my not-so-rose-colored specs:
John Edwards…Another astute lawyer - wannabee- prez. He’s no dummy and seemingly understands what Americans are looking for to put forth change in America. Both he and Elizabeth have been through the wringer personally, so they need a better 2008 and I pray that they have it. However, if I had spent $400 at the beauty salon for a haircut, my husband would have put an immediate halt to our eating out for at least the next four years!
Hillary Clinton…Politically savvy, but my ears hurt from her screaming out to her supporters. Sorry Hills, but Bill’s clothes would have been shredded all over the lawn of The White House if I’d have been his spouse back then! I predict, though, that if she does not win the presidency, there will no longer be a “Hill/Bill” union of any sort.
Barack Obama…Nice and knowledgeable- enough man with a lovely wife and children. He seems to be in tune with the issues, and is as popular with the crowds as a brand new tech toy! The odd thing is that he projects like an old man in a teen’s body. What’s with this?
Mike Huckabee…Good personality and a genuine people person. He can also play the guitar. He’s mixing politics with religion in Iowa but not in New Hampshire(?). I get a kick outta his last name and maybe he can open up a new restaurant chain if he doesn’t win the presidency.
Mitt Romney…Appears fairly well informed on every issue, and is truly pleasant in his demeanor to both the press and his constituents. He’s the sweater poster boy. He’s also the candidate that I elect to have a candlelit dinner with. Come on now, Jimmy Carter had lust in his heart too!
John McCain…our war hero and deservingly so. However, in my mind, he now belongs on the breakfast table with heavy syrup and butter (no…he’s not a pancake for Pete’s sake!)…and end it with “LER.” I hope his wife, Cindy, gets her hair cut really short again…it looks adorable on her.
Rudy Giuliani…cleaned up my favorite big city, and I’m grateful that I can now walk down Forty-Second Street without feeling the need for a long shower. Rudy showed off his mayoral prowess, but those voters, other than the city slickers, need to get to know him better in order for him to win or at least place. Secretly, I am hoping that he also gives out “The Big Apple’s Best Tasting of Any Pizza Recipe” to all of the other states. Add a few bars of “Sinatra” with it and my election year is complete!
