SANGRIA Illegal In Virginia!
Sangria Illegal in Virginia!
ABC Agent Forces La Tasca Restaurant Employees to Dump
40 Litres of the "Devils Juice" Down the Drain
The La Tasca Restaurant in Alexandria was just cited and fined $2000 by an ABC Agent for serving Sangria. You see, Virginia has an archaic law on the books going way back to 1934 which prohibits mixing of beer or spirits with wine. Probably something to do with Prohibition -around that time most states had lots of crazy "Blue Laws." However, most states have since repealed the nutty laws, and those that still have them on the books would never dream of enforcing them.
Alas. An ABC Agent in Virginia not only enforced this law against one of our small businesses, but went a step further and fined the restaurant $2000 and made employees pour over 40 liters of the elixer down the drain. A little extreme...
To add an even more twist of the knife, neither this Agent or ABC gave the restaurant a warning about this silly law or their intent to enforce it.

REPEAL ARCHAIC SANGRIA LAW
NO FINE FOR LA TASCA
While we're at it - let's get rid of these silly Virginia laws, too:
- Driving while not wearing shoes is prohibited.
- Citizens must honk their horn while passing other cars.
- Children are not to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.
- It is illegal to tickle women.
- No animal may be hunted for on Sunday with the exception of raccoons, which may be hunted until 2:00 AM.
Cheers!
