Starbucks to close 5 in Virginia

Five Virginia outlets are on Starbucks' list of 600 coffee shops it will close. All of the shops on the list are company owned, and are being closed in an effort to offset sagging business.

The Virginia outlets are located in Winchester, Fredericksburg, Gainesville, Hampton and Newport News.

The first Starbucks opened in Seattle, Wash., in 1971. It was the brainchild of two teachers and a writer. Its rapid expansion resulted in 6,000 shops worldwide at its peak.
