Chase leads police to Madison

The Culpeper Police Department, assisted by the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office, pursued the driver of a minivan through Orange and into Madison County on Saturday, May 31 after the driver refused to stop.

Rodney Leavell, 22, of Culpeper, was charged with eluding a law enforcement officer and driving on a suspended license following the weekend incident. He also faces numerous charges in Madison County, where he was ultimately arrested.

Officer Kevin Toley initiated the pursuit of Leavell's vehicle in the town of Culpeper after observing the minivan pull out on North Main Street with no headlights.

Toley attemped to stop the vehicle, but it continued passed the Culpeper Town Square shopping center, through town to Route 3, where it headed south on Route 522 toward Orange.

The Culpeper Sheriff's Office joined the chase to Raccoon Ford Road, until the pursuit ended along a dirt portion of the road due to safety concerns.

Law enforcement searched the area for Leavell and located the registered address of the vehicle. When police arrived to the residence, Leavell pulled into the driveway.

Leavell was arrested by Madison County deputies and taken to the Central Va. Regional Jail in Orange.
