REC’S restoration efforts complete

Severe thunderstorms left over 12,000 members without power this past weekend. The areas hit hardest were concentrated in the counties of Essex, King and Queen, King William and Caroline. The significant amount of damage to lines, poles, and equipment made it necessary to request assistance from neighboring Cooperatives.

It is always our goal to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” said Rhonda F. Curtis, REC’s manager of customer services. All REC crews from Bowling Green and Culpeper Districts were working to do just that. Additional resources from Central Virginia Electric Cooperative and Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative responded to REC’s call for assistance. “It brings great value to our members to have additional resources available through neighboring cooperatives,” added Curtis.

REC is a member-owned cooperative providing service to more than 100,000 homes and businesses in portions of 16 Virginia counties. The Cooperative reminds its members that the summer storm and hurricane season is just starting. Everyone should be prepared for outages by creating an emergency preparedness kit including flashlights, extra batteries, radio and first aid kit. Visit www.myrec.coop for more information about how to create your own outage preparation kit.
