All Central Virginia Roads Are Open

CULPEPER – The last two Fauquier County roads closed by high water from last weekend’s torrential rains have reopened to traffic. No significant damage to any roads was reported as a result of the storms.

With another round of storms forecast to begin Thursday and continue into Friday, the Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing for the possibility of additional flooding, especially along small creeks and streams.

The soil is saturated and additional rain will likely run off quickly and cause those streams to rise again. The soggy soil also makes trees somewhat unstable and vulnerable to high winds. Motorists can receive updated information about road closings and weather by dialing 511 from any telephone within Virginia, or before they travel on the Web at www.511Virginia.org.
