A rough Monday for CCHS

If you're looking for magical postseason runs, best go elsewhere.

The Culpeper baseball, boys soccer and girls soccer teams all dropped Cedar Run District tournament games on Monday, ending their respective seasons.

CCHS traveled to Stonewall Jackson on the diamond. The Devils fell behind 3-0 and 4-2, but managed to tie the game at four during their final at-bat. Stonewall responded, though, punching across a run in the bottom of the seventh for the 5-4 victory.

Meanwhile, over at Osbourn Park, the boys soccer team tried to pull an upset at the district No. 6 seed. Playing against an OP team that beat them 5-0 earlier in the year, the Devils forged a 1-1 halftime tie. OP scored early in the second for a 2-1 lead and held on for the one-goal victory.

"You can never be happy when you lose, but I thought we played well," CCHS coach Tim Kearney said. "We spent the last five minutes of the game in front of their net. We just couldn't put one in."

The situation was even worse for the Culpeper girls soccer team, which ran into No. 1 seed Battlefield - a Washington Post-ranked squad. Battlefield scored three times in the first five minutes, en route to an 8-1 victory.
