Fameball Fiasco: The Salahis
Tareq and Michaele Salahi have created their own reality show, but it may be more real than they bargained for. While making national and international headlines last week with their brazen crash of the White House State Dinner, they successfully upstaged Tiger Wood's crash into a tree, Dick Cheney's possible run for president and any focus on U.S./India relations. While introduced to the world for the first time, neighboring Fauquier County (see our sister paper's coverage in the Fauquier Times Democrat) is quite familiar with the Salahi's and their contentious relationship with Tareq's parents over the dispensation of Oasis Winery in Hume, and their trail of lawsuits ? many to do with various charitable foundations.
Up as candidates for Bravo's 'Real Housewives of Washington, D.C.,' the Salahis have definitely marketed themselves as members of the world's 'beautiful people,' and clearly they look the part. But they may have marketed themselves into criminal charges that could land them behind bars.
It is lamentable that while our president sends more troops to Afghanistan, his own Secret Service is now being scrutinized for this clear breach of security in his own home. It is a sad day for America when the camera-hungry glitterati can capture more of our nation's attention than the troops overseas, the healthcare reform debate or the travails of millions of jobless who are facing a less-than-happy holiday.
