Culpeper Police Seek Fugitive
The Culpeper Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for abduction and felonious assault from an incident during the July Fourth holiday.
Since July 3, officers have been unable to locate Prentice L. Newman, 30, of the 1400 block of Orange Road. Arrest warrants charging him with felony abduction and malicious wounding remain on file at the police department.
About 1:45 a.m., Newman’s 30-year-old live-in girlfriend told police that the couple began arguing about 12:30 a.m. She said that Newman allegedly pushed her down several times, causing her head to hit the concrete on the back patio. The victim also alleged that Newman also continued kicking and hitting her while she was on the ground.
For more than an hour, she pleaded with Newman to allow her to seek medical help, but he allegedly refused and blocked the door, according to Capt. Ricky Pinksaw.
The victim told Newman that if she was allowed to leave she wouldn’t call police. He allowed to her seek medical help, which ultimately allowed her to call police.
She was transported to Culpeper Regional Hospital and later was transferred to the U. Va. Medical Center by helicopter for treatment due to a fractured eye socket.
Newman is described as a black male, 5 feet 10 inches tall. He has a scar on the left side of his neck and a tattoo of a cross on his right arm.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Newman may contact the police department at 727-3430 or anonymously call Crime Solvers at 727-0300 where you never have to give your name or testify in court to receive a cash reward.
