The Culpeper Community Calendar lists events sponsored by non-profit groups. Please include contact information and submit items by noon Friday. E-mail Mary Ann Stewart at mstewart@timespapers.com

Food Closet "Need of the Week," the following items are needed: Chicken Helper, peanut butter and/or jelly, and personal hygiene supplies. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Food Closet is located at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Phone: (540) 825-1177.

 

Culpeper County Library. Session for Tuesday Story Times runs Nov. 10 to Dec. 15. Pre-School Story Time is at 10:30 a.m., and Toddler Story time at 10:30 or 11:15 a.m. Stories, songs, finger plays, crafts and more.

Walk-in Story Time is every Friday at 10:30 a.m. (except Nov. 27). This program is for children of all ages and their caregivers. Stories, songs, activities and more. No registration necessary.

Bedtime Story Times are on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. These family-oriented programs feature stories, rhymes, songs and activities. Children are encouraged to attend in their pajamas and to bring a favorite stuffed animal. No registration necessary.

"Can Your Fines" from Nov. 15 to Dec. 15 by bringing in one can of food for each overdue item or fine and that fine will be forgiven. Proceeds to go to Community Christmas Basket Program. Monetary donations accepted.

 

 

Culpeper County Parks and Recreation. There is still time to register for the following classes: Knitting 102, Kids Club: Ships, Cars, dashing through the snow. Powell Wellness Center. The Powell Wellness Center conference room will be the site for kids classes, including Geo-Kids, yoga and printmaking. The multi-week sessions start Nov. 10 or 11; prices vary from $30 to $50. "Building in Toy Land" offers three two-day sessions starting Dec. 8; cost is $25-35. Turkey shoots. The Jefferson Ruritan club will be having their annual turkey shoots at the Jeffersonton Community Center starting at 7 p.m. and every Friday through Dec. 4. Women and teens have successfully competed here. Good target practice for the season, ideal training opportunities for young or new shooters, fellowship and civic support. 100 percent of proceeds go to scholarships, local public service organizations and other charitable causes. Spiritual Care Support Ministry. Chronically Ill Support Groups are weekly opportunities to come together for food, fellowship, and encouragement. Mondays from 11 a.m. to noon at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 415 South Main St. (across from 7-11), Culpeper. This is non-denominational and free.

The SCSM Culpeper Satellite Office is open every Monday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing support, education, and a Biblical perspective to those who are ill, dying, grieving and experiencing personal loss, and to those who journey with them. Thursday, Nov. 12

"Who Done It?" (Universal, 1942) Two stupid soda jerks dream of writing radio mysteries in this Abbott and Costello comedy. When they try to pitch an idea to a radio station, they end up in the middle of a real murder mystery after the station owner is killed during a broadcast. Preserved by the Library of Congress, the film stars Bud Abbott and Lou Costello and was directed by Erle C. Kenton. Movie starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Library of Congress Packard Campus located on Mt. "Come and See" (Belarusfilm/Kino International, 1985, R-rated (No one under 17 will be admitted without a parent or an adult guardian)) Directed by Elem Klimov, this film is the story of eastern Soviet Union villages that were destroyed by German troops in 1943, as seen through the eyes of a teenage boy who loses his home, family and friends. Produced in German and Russian with English subtitles, the film stars Aleksei Kravchenko and Olga Mironova. Movie starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Library of Congress Packard Campus located on Mt. State Theatre Foundation presents Alecia Nugent for a night of Bluegrass and Barbeque at the Inn at Kelly's Ford. The Dark Hollow Bluegrass Band will open for Alecia Nugent. • The United Methodist Women are hosting their 22nd Annual Christmas Craft Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Culpeper United Methodist Church, 1233 Oaklawn Drive. This is a popular, well attended event with over 50 vendors present. Come get a head start on your Christmas shopping. Continental breakfast and lunch will be available. "The Wellspring of Liberty: How Virginia's Religious Dissenters Helped Win the American Revolution and Religious Liberty" is the topic of a public meeting sponsored by the Society for the Preservation of Culpeper History at 3 p.m. at the Culpeper Library. Dr. John Ragosta of Rixeyville and Charlottesville will present the program. Dr. Ragosta, a historian and lawyer who received both his PhD and JD from the University of Virginia has published extensively in both legal and historical journals in the areas of early American history, constitutional law and international relations. . He has received several short-term fellowships at Monticello's International Center for Jefferson Studies. He has a degree in physics-chemistry and is a bee keeper. Sunday, Nov. 15

Veterans honored. Veterans of the armed services, active and reserve members, will be raised in prayer during a special service in their honor at Little Fork Episcopal Church.
