Culpeper Community Garden grew with care

November brings the end to a successful growing season for the first Culpeper Community Garden. Thirty families and many individuals worked a total of 27 plots. They harvested nearly a ton of fresh produce. Several of these families donated many pounds of fresh vegetables to the local Food Closet and Department of Social Services.

Thank you to the following for the use of their property and water, as well as the upkeep of the garden area:

Culpeper Farm and Home Center: General Manager Dave Durr, Manager Page Brown as well as Ed Dunphy, Michael Lambert, J.T. Taylor, Spicy Penn, Michael Kilby, William Timmons, Mike Williams and Board President, Greg Smith.

Master Gardner’s: A big thank you to Nancy Batiste for her willingness to share her vast knowledge of horticulture with all of the participants. Thanks also to Laurie Hughes for her assistance as well.

Community Volunteers: A special thanks to our community volunteers. These individuals gave freely of their time. and donated items for the garden?Richard Batiste, Paul Watkevich, Sampie Adams, Jack Hartman, Deke Jackson, The Culpeper Growers, Simon Fiscus, Scott Evans, Kim Whitehead, Boy Scout troop 550, Dr. Snyder, Verdun Adventure Bound, Michael Phillips of Lone Pine Organics. Emily Watkevich, Eric Watkevich, Colin Huntt, Alex Catherine and Julie Johnston.

Press: Thank you for keeping the community informed?Anna Robertson, James Clements, Ray Finefrock, Nate Delesline, Lindsey Cline of Virginia Living Television, Flavor Magazine, the Culpeper Times and the Star-Exponent.

Garden participants: Thank you for the time and energy you devoted to your plots. In its first year the garden was very successful, and it would not have been possible without your patience and dedication to the project.

Once again, thank you for helping to make the First Culpeper Community Garden a success. Everyone involved in the garden and its planning appreciates your contribution.

Hope to see you all next year
