Sheriff department lists weekend incidents

Contributed Report

The Culpeper County Sheriff's office released reports about two weekend incidents.

On Oct. 17, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Deputy Roger Jones was dispatched to 16589 Edwards Shop Road (Inn At Kelly’s Ford) on a report of disorderly conduct.

The deputy spoke with a witness who described seeing a vehicle driving thorough a nearby field at a high speed, spinning out of control and then driving through a fence.

At the scene the witness pointed out the individual suspected of driving the vehicle. After speaking with that individual, the deputy put him under arrest for being intoxicated in public.

John A. Sommer, 31, of Manassas, Va. is charged with appearing in public in an intoxicated condition (Va. Code 18.2-388) and intentional damage of property, specifically a wood fence and lawn (Va. Code 18.2-137).

Damages for the property belonging to Inn at Kelly’s Ford are estimated at $550. Sommer has a court date set for Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m. He was released on a $3000 unsecured bond.

Second incident

On the same evening, at approximately 11:24 p.m., Deputy Greta Wyant was dispatched to an automobile accident in the area of 28012 Eleys Ford Road.

After questioning him, the deputy took the driver, Eric S. Giles, 18, of Richardsville, into custody for driving under the influence.

In a search of Giles, the deputy allegedly found a bottle of pills in his jacket. The medication was prescribed to a relative of Giles. It was determined to be Alprazolam, a schedule IV narcotic.

Based on the quantity prescribed on the bottle, the deputy determined that allegedly 2/3 of the pills were missing from the bottle. Giles allegedly had not given the prescription to his relative because he said he hadn’t seen her.

Giles is charged with possessing a controlled substance (Va. Code 18.2-250), operating an uninsured vehicle (Va. Code 46.2-707), driving without a license (Va. Code 46.2-301) and driving while intoxicated (Va. Code 18.2-266).

The remainder of the prescription was returned to Giles’ relative. Giles was released on a $3,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled in General District Court on Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m.
